BEFORE EXTRACTION
-Preoperative treatment : Scrupulously follow the indications on your prescription for prescribed medications.
- Diet : Eat a hearty breakfast to avoid any risk of discomfort. Continue to take your medication as indicated.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER EXTRACTION
- Bleeding Keep a bite compress on for about 30 minutes to help stop the bleeding. Repeat if necessary.
- Rinsing Avoid rinsing or spitting to preserve the clot at the healing site.
- Smoking Don't smoke for at least 7 days to avoid the risk of infection (alveolitis) and promote optimal healing.
- Icing Apply ice to the operated area for the first 6 hours (10-minute application, followed by a 10-minute break) in the case of more invasive surgery.
- Food and beverages Avoid grainy foods, alcoholic beverages and hot drinks (tea, coffee, etc.), as they may cause bleeding.
- Hygiene : Do not brush the operated area for the first 48 hours, but continue to brush the rest of the teeth and areas.
- Anesthesia Be careful when chewing to avoid biting your tongue or the inside of your cheeks.
- Pain Take any painkillers or anti-inflammatories prescribed, with the exception of aspirin.
- Ice Use cold compresses to soothe pain and inflammation over the next few days, if necessary.
THE FOLLOWING DAYS
- Rinse After 48 hours, rinse gently with an antiseptic solution or alcohol-free mouthwash containing chlorhexidine, 2 to 3 times a day.
- Brushing Resume brushing, avoiding exerting too much pressure on the operated area.
- Nutrition Prefer soft, warm foods, such as purées, cold soups or compotes. Avoid spicy, crunchy or hot foods.
- Complications In the event of persistent pain, excessive bleeding or abnormal swelling, avoid all contact and contact your dentist immediately.
- Stitches If stitches have been used, consult your dentist for their removal after 7 to 10 days.
ADDITIONAL POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR AESTHETIC ANTERIOR SECTOR GINGIVECTOMY
- Brushing Do not brush the operated area for 5 days or until the threads have been removed, as recommended by your dentist.
- Local care Apply Elugel or Hyalugel spray as directed by your dentist, usually 3 times a day.
- Mouthwash Use a chlorhexidine-based mouthwash (such as Eludril Pério or Paroex) 2-3 times a day, for 30-60 seconds, after meals and before bedtime.
- Gum grafts For gum grafts, apply Dynexan 2% to the underside of the palatal plate in the donor area.
- Subsequent brushing After wire removal, use an Oral-B IO toothbrush with brush head and "Sensitive Clean" mode for 3 weeks.
- Analgesics Use paracetamol and/or ibuprofen for pain management, as indicated by your dentist.
